I've been told that many users run "Sunrise Earth" on their HDTVs to provide a nice background picture and sound.

Me I prefer to turn-off the TV and look outside my rear window.
All kinds of interesting creatures are running-around.

This idea is making its way into new products. We just got a HDTV / PC monitor. It comes stock with a USB input, and installed software to run a slide show of pictures or play MP3 files. Store the jpgs or MP3 on a USB flash drive.

Too bad, as you say, that this isn't retrofitable into existing HDTV units.

Well, you can always:
1) Burn a desired video to a DVD, and play in your DVD player (in loop mode)
2) Plug in your digital camera with desired video clip to the TV and play (in loop mode)

Thus, you are utilizing existing hardware you already have. Better for the environment and one's pocket book. :)

Nice idea. However, as with most things hardware, it would take a considerable amount of work to get this right, and then get it into Best Buy. It could be an enhancement of an LCD picture frame with an output to your HDTV.
