“One of the best business-building tactics is to demonstrate your knowledge to a receptive audience,” say Marketing Masters Ken Burgin and Elizabeth Walker. “Public speaking is particularly effective if your business has a service or consulting component.”
In their recent article, ,Speak Up! Get out there and find an audience for what you do on Mplans.com, Burgin and Walker point out the hows and whys of business owners getting out into their target market communities and engaging in different forms of public speaking, e.g. demos or hands-on workshops.

Yes, having something to offer that directly impacts your public speaking audience is key to having them sit up and pay attention to your speech.
I’d not argue that public speaking is a great way to market what you do… but….
I know I’m biased (because of what I do for a living!) but I think it’s worth mentioning that when you do your public speaking you need to make very, very sure you do it well. Thing is, the audience will associate the quality of your product/service with the quality of your presentation. If you present badly, you’ll be assumed to be selling cheap and nasty tat.
If a thing’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well…..
