I believe there are disproportionately few women heading interesting tech startups; that this is bad; and that it’s neither their fault nor their preference. I’ve posted about that in women in entrepreneurship and about the gender gap on my main blog, and I’ve read the arguments in Vivek Wadwha’s thoughtful post on TechCrunch and elsewhere.
If you disagree, that’s your right, but I’m not arguing about it here. I’m saying it’s obvious and moving on.
In fact I want to cite a nice counter example here: Women 2.0′s Female Founder Successes of 2010: a great list, with a lot of interesting examples. And I don’t mean to imply that these successes in any way diminish the importance of the problem, or argue against the fact that there is a problem; just to say that some great women are making it, regardless.
Congratulations to every one of them.

Great article! I think there is a gender gap, but it’s not so big like most of people think about. Women nowadays are gaining more power and become more tech-oriented and educated.
Amerikanka, as you write that the gender gap isn’t as big as people think, I hope you’re a woman …. when men say that, well, it doesn’t work, in my opinion.
Bottom line, some women are making it and are becoming very successful. I think this will continue to increase and we should just continue to keep moving forward and become the next success! Thanks for posting.
